Waterloo Festival to Screen Anime Films

The Waterloo Festival for Animated Cinema will be screening the following films during its upcoming festival, which is taking place November 14-17, 2013 at the Chrysalids Theatre:

  • Evangelion 3.0 You Can (Not) Redo
  • 009 Re:Cyborg
  • The three Berserk films

The opening night gala for the festival is will be hosting a tribute to Hayao Miyazaki called “Nerdgasm: Miyazaki Madness,” which will honor Miyazaki’s lifetime of films through burlesque, circus, dance, and other variety acts.

Author Brian Ruh will be presenting a panel on November 17, 2013 at 10:30 a.m. that will focus on anime director Mamoru Oshii.

Dark Horse Reprinting All of the Berserk Manga

Michael Gombos from Dark Horse Comics announced on Twitter that the company will be republishing all volumes of the Berserk manga series, including some that were hard to find and sold in the $90 range or more on eBay.

Gombos also revealed that with the publication of the 29th volume of Berserk, they’ve passed the three-quarters-of-a-million mark in series sales.

Anime Wins at Montreal’s Fantasia Fest

Montreal’s Fantasia International Film Festival announced that three anime won awards during their event:

  • Makoto Shinkai’s The Garden of Words and Toshiyuki Kubooka’s Berserk Golden Age Arc III: Descent films both won the Satoshi Kon Award for Achievement in Animation
  • Masaaki Yuasa’s Kick-Heart anime short won Best Animated Short Film

The 2013 Fantasia International Film Festival took place from July 19 to August 7, 2013.

First Two Berserk Films Screening at Asian Film Fest in Dallas

The 12th annual Asian Film Festival of Dallas has announced that it will be screening Berserk: The Golden Age I – The Egg of the King and Berserk: The Golden Age II – The Battle for Doldrey.

The festival will be taking place July 11-18, 2013 at the Angelika Film Center of Dallas. For more information, visit the Asian Film Festival of Dallas‘ website.

2nd Berserk Film Premiering in San Francisco

Viz Media has announced that Berserk Golden Age Arc II: The Battle for Doldrey will be screened at the New People Cinema in San Francisco on May 11, 2013. The first two films will be shown as a double feature at 3:00 p.m. and at 8:00 p.m., and both films will be shown with the English dub. The double feature will also be shown on Viz Media’s Neon Alley service at the same time as the San Francisco screening.

Tickets for the double feature cost US$25 and are available now. Ticketholders will receive a gift pack with items from Japan.

Diamond Lists Top Market Shares & Graphic Novels for 2012

Diamonds Comics Distributors has published its top publisher market shares and its top 500 graphic novels of 2012. The numbers are based on total sales of comics, graphic novels, and magazines to comic book specialty stores in 2012. The Diamond rankings may not reflect the overall sales rankings at all bookstores throughout North America.

By publisher, Dark Horse Comics came in at #5 with 4.81 percent of the market share. Viz Media came in at #9 with .93 percent of the market share.

No manga volumes ranked with the top 100. However, manga came in between #145 and #487 in the list. The list includes nine Viz Media volumes, seven Kodansha volumes, two Dark Horse volumes, and two Yen Press volumes.

First Berserk Film Wins Silver at Oregon Film Awards

The Oregon Film Awards has announced that the Berserk: The Golden Age Arc I – The Egg of the King anime film won a Silver Award in the Animated Film Competition category.

The Oregon Film Awards distributes awards in four recognition levels: Platinum, Gold, Silver, and Bronze.
