Information on the New Berserk Television Anime Series

Information has been revealed for the forthcoming new Berserk television anime series.

Shin Itagaki is directing the anime. Makoto Fukami is supervising the series scripts in collaboration with Takashi Yamashita. Hisashi Abe is designing the characters. Shiro Sagisu is composing the music. LIDEN FILMS is credited for production, while GEMBA and Millepensee are credited for animation production.

The cast includes:

  • Kaoru Mizuhara is Puck
  • Yōko Hikasa is Farnese
  • Kazuyuki Okitsu is Serpico
  • Hiro Shimono is Isidro
  • Hiroki Yasumoto is Azan

  • Akio Ohtsuka is Skull Knight
  • Unshou Ishizuka is Narrator

The new Berserk anime is scheduled to premiere in July 2016.

Berserk Manga to Resume as Monthly Series

This year’s 14th issue of Hakusensha’s Young Animal magazine is announcing that Kentarou Miura’s Berserk manga will resume in the magazine’s next issue as a monthly series, after a 10-month hiatus. Hakusensha will publish this year’s 15th issue of Young Animal in Japan on July 24, 2015. Miura’s last published a chapter of the manga in Young Animal on September 26, 2014.

Miura took a break from Berserk in early 2014 to publish the six-chapter Gigantomakhia mini-series. Berserk returned to Young Animal in the eighth issue, which was published on April 11, 2014, but then the manga went on hiatus again in June 2014. It returned again in August 2014, and went on hiatus again in September 2014.

Hakusensha published the 37th compiled book volume of Berserk in Japan in March 2013. Dark Horse Comics published the same volume in North America in December 2013. The manga inspired a new movie trilogy from Studio 4°C that VIZ Media released in North America.

Viz Media Announces Special Theatrical Screening of Berserk: The Golden Age Arc III – The Advent

Viz Media has announced that the Berserk: The Golden Age Arc III – The Advent anime film will be screened at the 2014 Japan Film Festival of San Francisco. The film will screen on July 23, 2014 at 7:00 p.m. with an encore presentation on July 27, 2014 at 7:00 p.m. The film will be presented with the original Japanese dialogue and English subtitles. Tickets for Berserk: The Golden Age Arc III – The Advent are $13.00 each.

Berserk: The Golden Age Arc III – The Advent depicts the horrifying conclusion to the epic Golden Age trilogy and unfolds in a magnificently violent nightmare, signifying the birth of a new era. It’s been a year since Griffith’s imprisonment by the Kingdom of Midland. Once praised as the saviors of the Midland, the Band of the Hawk has been on the run and is on the brink of breaking apart. Much to everyone’s surprise, Guts returns to the Hawks, and the search for Griffith begins!

Japan Film Festival of San Francisco to Screen Anime Films

The Japan Film Festival of San Francisco will be taking place July 19-27, 2014, and the films being screened at this year’s event have been announced.

The anime films being screened during the festival include:

  • Short Peace (July 20, 2014)
  • The Garden of Words (July 21, 2014)
  • anohana: The Flower We Saw That Day (July 21, 2014)
  • Berserk: The Golden Age Arc III – The Advent (July 23 and 27, 2014)
  • Hunter x Hunter -The Last Mission- (U.S. premiere; July 26, 2014)

Viz Media Releases Berserk: The Golden Age Arc III – The Advent

Viz Media has announced that the company has released the Berserk: The Golden Age Arc III – The Advent anime film on DVD and Blu-ray Disc.

The release is rated “M” for Mature Audiences and carries a DVD MSRP of $19.98 U.S. / $24.98 CAN and a Blu-ray MSRP of $24.98 U.S. / $27.50 CAN. The DVD edition features Japanese and English 5.1 audio with both subbed and subtitled dialogue options. The Blu-ray version features crisp 1080p HD resolution along with Japanese and English DTS-HD audio and subbed and subtitled dialogue options.

DVD bonus features include a production art gallery, theatrical trailers, original Japanese TV spots and the ending theme, “breakthrough.” The Blu-ray edition also includes all DVD features with additional content, including a special highlight reel for the U.S. theatrical premiere of BERSERK: THE GOLDEN AGE ARC II – THE BATTLE FOR DOLDREY, outtakes from THE ADVENT and THE EGG OF THE KING, and an interview with Eiko Tanaka, President of Studio 4ºC, which produced the entire BERSERK anime trilogy.

Waterloo Festival to Screen Anime Films

The Waterloo Festival for Animated Cinema will be screening the following films during its upcoming festival, which is taking place November 14-17, 2013 at the Chrysalids Theatre:

  • Evangelion 3.0 You Can (Not) Redo
  • 009 Re:Cyborg
  • The three Berserk films

The opening night gala for the festival is will be hosting a tribute to Hayao Miyazaki called “Nerdgasm: Miyazaki Madness,” which will honor Miyazaki’s lifetime of films through burlesque, circus, dance, and other variety acts.

Author Brian Ruh will be presenting a panel on November 17, 2013 at 10:30 a.m. that will focus on anime director Mamoru Oshii.

Dark Horse Reprinting All of the Berserk Manga

Michael Gombos from Dark Horse Comics announced on Twitter that the company will be republishing all volumes of the Berserk manga series, including some that were hard to find and sold in the $90 range or more on eBay.

Gombos also revealed that with the publication of the 29th volume of Berserk, they’ve passed the three-quarters-of-a-million mark in series sales.
